Came face to face with this guy and frieked out a bit! "Okay, breathe.......their not out to harm me, see he's eating a bug." I looked him up when I got home and he's a Black and Yellow Garden Spider, quite common and harmless. Just freaking huge! A good inch and a half or more with legs. Ok, so I read about them and feel better when coming across them now. Darn spider phobia.
Came face to face with this guy and frieked out a bit inside! “Okay, breathe…….their not out to harm me, see he’s eating a bug.” I looked him up when I got home and he’s a Black and Yellow Garden Spider, quite common and harmless. Just freakin’ huge! A good inch and a half or more including legs.  Female one here, which are much bigger than males apparently.  Okay, so I read about them and feel calmer when coming across them now.  Darn spider phobia.
Here's the other side (belly side). Apparently they make this weird criss cross messy looking part in the center of their webs for reasons unknown, perhaps to camouflage them better from insect prey crawling or flying by. Hm, ya, you need camouflage, buddy, you're HUGE!

...And the important part, the yummy, juicy, plump berries. Two buckets worth (they didn't last long, a week at most!)

  1. yummy! I am presently baking gf scones – could have put in blueberries but instead grated cheese, some green chiles and green onions. To this once baked, I will spread gooseberry jam that I bought at a market in Osoyoos. Gooseberries are pretty rare I think nowadays, but are apparently super healthy. Your grandma was a raspberry nut – couldn’t get enough of them.

    1. I’ve never tried gooseberry jam. They are the green berries right? Just found a good gluten free tea biscuit recipe, but I’m more partial to raisins in those. I would like to plant some raspberry and blueberry bushes in our yard so I can eat lots without paying anyone!
